Once you’re finished adding your Category Two funding requests and FRN line items, complete, certify, and submit the form.
On the “Funding Requests” page, you can access information about your Category Two budget.
After entering the product and service details for your Category Two funding request (FRN) line item, the next screens to complete are the cost calculation, and selecting the recipients of service.
Once you’ve successfully entered a funding request and generated a funding request number (FRN), add line items that describe the funding request in detail. Start by clicking on the blue FRN number to add a line item.
To request funding for Category Two services — internal connections, managed internal broadband services, and basic maintenance of internal connections — file a separate FCC Form 471 (you cannot request Category One and Category Two services on the same form).
Another big point of interest for E-rate applicants is how to account for non-instructional facilities (NIFs) in a Category Two budget.
Non-instructional facilities do not get their own Category Two budget because they are not a school or a library. But there are some cases where schools/libraries can cost allocate part of their budget to a NIF, if the NIF building is essential to deliver service to a school/library, for example, it houses a piece of equipment that is shared between schools/libraries.
